A third beta is out.
Including :
Just check it out !
I did a lot of the stuff I wanted to do in the previous post… Issue rating, theme engine and so on (Voting is only available in the SVN version for the moment, I’m waiting for the next beta to release it).
I have to think about a more casual navigation though… Help would be appreciated
It’s been a while since the last update. So much to do, and so little time…
Still no upgrade in the software (sorry, my fault, but I had some problems). I was hoping people would get involved and contribute, since the engine is quite functional now.
There are a lot a features to do :
- themes and theme engine
- popularity votes (covers and stories)
- ajax implementation
and of course the usual bug squashing and code cleaning.
So if you know any PHP/MySQL, feel free to send sany patch !

Bonjour,
Here we are… This is it… The first beta release is out.
The project is almost functional now. I’d like to release an alpha version pretty soon (I might even install it on the historical site for testing). The major features are done. Now I’d like to improve the “relational” pages : member public profile, private messages, latests updates and so on…
Christmas was a hell of time to work. Too much chocolate, too much lazyness. So the project remained pretty still during the holidays. Well, okay, during January too, I’m a lazy person, so sue me…
But February was a busy month. Au menu :
- User account : the various PDF exports were already done. Now the collection, the searchlist and the selling-list administration pages are done. Yeehaa !
- Artist biographies and issue summaries are available in any language, thanks to XML.
- Issue adding
Displaying data is rather OK, I’m still having trouble updating. That shouldn’t last too long though.
Like a true believer used to say : “Excelsior !”
Welcome to the madcollector weblog.
As you may know, madcollector is a free php/mysql project for geeks : its purpose is to be a Comics CMS. The current version is kinda crappy, so the aim of the project is to build a new version.
This CMS (Comics Management System) is based on a collaborative principle. The purpose of this engine is to stock data about comic-books : publishers, authors, summary… But also to help collectors to manage their own comics collection.
The database is a collective one. It means it’s not based on a previous database stolen somewhere, but it’s filled by authorized members.
It can be used in two ways :
The collection management includes the online list of comics the collector already has, so that he/she can find it anywhere in the world and export a PDF list, or so that friends know what comic-book might be a good idea for a present and avoid an awkward moment. It also includes an online search engine, to check anywhere which issue is missing in a a series or a long run.
Like many other comic-book collectors, I used to make a spreadsheet list of my belongings when I went shopping in Comic Marts, in order to avoid buying duplicate issues. But each time I also used to forget the list.
This is how this project was born. I wanted to be able to access my collection from anywhere if I ever forgot my list (which I often do).
